Chatterbugs groups meet on Saturdays for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Each group consists of typically developing children and children who have ASD.

Groups are arranged by assessing each child's abilities and range in age from preschool to high school.

No more than seven children in total will participate in a group. Each group will be run by a licensed speech pathologist or a special education teacher and will address areas such as:

         b.jpg understanding social situations

b.jpg participating in play and play based conversation

         b.jpg initiating social interactions

         b.jpg maintaining conversational skills

b.jpg interpreting the body language of others

Prior to enrollment, a questionnaire is completed that will provide information about your child's language and social abilities. Also, an initial evaluation will be held with the child and parent(s) to assess language and cognitive skills and to determine if your child's skill level matches one of our groups. This meeting will take place in your home so that we might observe your child in an environment familiar to him or her.

We make every attempt to place children who have skills that compliment one another together to form a functional, appropriate and productive group.
